The approach

I build websites for humans first, search engines second - which, paradoxically, is how you win at both. Most web developers think about design and function. I think about customer journeys, conversion, copywriting, and SEO from the first wireframe. The result is a website that looks good, ranks well, and actually drives enquiries.

Because I'm a marketing consultant who also builds websites - not a developer who dabbles in marketing - the strategy and the build are never disconnected. Every layout decision, every page title, every call to action is there for a reason.

Everyone wants to argue about platforms.

It's the least interesting question in the room. The right one falls out of what you're trying to do. Not the other way around.

WordPress

When you need to publish often and own the thing outright. Most businesses land here, and there's no shame in it. Done properly it's quick. Done badly it's the reason people think WordPress is slow.

Shopify

When you're actually selling product. Payments, inventory, shipping and tax are solved problems. Rebuilding all of that yourself to save a subscription fee is a decision you'll regret by the second Christmas.

Custom-coded

When a template costs you more than it saves. Usually that's speed, or something the off-the-shelf version simply won't do. Built from scratch in Next.js, with no page builder in sight.
